at the beginning of this past baseball season, the giants were offered a trade of alexis rios for tim lincecum, good thing that trade didn't happened, rios had a disappointing season and lincecum is in the running for the cy young. after the season end, the sf chronicles reported that there might be a giant deal brewing between the brewers and the giants
. a trade that would involve matt cain going to the brewers while prince fielder and jj hardy would be going to the giants. as a giants fan, i think it's an excellent deal. even though i think cain is a better pitcher than his record indicate,
. a trade that would involve matt cain going to the brewers while prince fielder and jj hardy would be going to the giants. as a giants fan, i think it's an excellent deal. even though i think cain is a better pitcher than his record indicate, the giants do get two proven, young, and legitimate borderline all-stars in return (i know, they both already made all-star teams, but i was referring to making it on a consistant basis).
but if i were to be the brewers, i wouldn't take the deal, for the reason i just mentioned above. maybe if it was
bill hall instead of hardy, then that deal would seem more balanced. now the giants and brewere are interesting teams, one has good, young pitchers while the other has good young hitters. which is why i propose they should make a swap on their best player, ryan braun for lincecum. legitimate mvp candidate for legitimate cy young. but if it's a straight up trade over those two players, i think the giants would be on the losing end of the deal, based on the complete and utter dominance of the league showned by lincecum this passing season. that's where i think other players should be added on the deal, braun and hardy for lincecum and aaron rowand. lincecum was so good that any deal that involves him should require the team landing him to take on some of negatives to balace the trade, in this particular case, it's rowands contract, rowand's a nice player, but just not what the giants need and certainly not at the pricetag he's getting.
