It's Been Awhile...

Dear Readers (all five of you,) It has been a while since I have posted.  With the state of the Giants, there is not much to post, but...Barry Zito went 8 innings of shutout ball last night (8/2) against the San Diego Padres.  But remember, they are worse than the G-men...Having won 3-2 in 10 innings on Friday night, today (8/3) they are seeking a sweep this afternoon...After today, they are back home to the Atlanta Braves and the hated Los Angeles Dodgers...With just one-third of the schedule to go, the Giants aren't going anyplace, except 2009...General Manager Brian Sabean took a lot of heat for not pulling off any trades except Ray Durham before the July 31st deadline.  Other teams still want Cain and Lincecum, and that ain't going to happen.  In one trade rumor, the Twins offered Boof  Bonser, who went to the Twins in that ill-fated Joe Nathan for AJ Persinskey trade four years ago.  Sabean still cannot live that down...I have always held this position: Any team needs a few vets around to show the young kids how it is done.  Though he hitting way under the Mendoza Line, Omar Vizquel is still valuable to show Burris and Ochoa how to play major league shortstop...One of the Giants bright spots over the past few weeks has been the pitching of Sergio Romo.  In a relief roll, he is 1-1, with a 2.35 ERA.  He played among family and friends last night.  He is from Brawley less than two hours from San Diego...Reported today that Lincecum wants to pitch more, having reached his 143 innings, plus minor league work from last season Friday night.)  He wants to pitch 8 or nine, not being pulled after seven with a big pitch count.  May see him do that in the last 8 weeks of the season.  The team wants to protect that arm though!!!  Good readin' and good rootin'  August 3, 2008
