Giants Drop 2 to Phillies

A weekend visit to Philadelphia saw the Giants winning a one run decision, while dropping two others.  Both of the losses came in the Phillies last at bat, including a walk off two run homer by San Jose's Pat Burrell on Saturday night...Giants were able to scratch back in both games from deficits, but the final outcome was not to their liking.  Their record now stands at 14-17, a lot better than any of the so-called experts thought they would be.  The 'experts' had them in last place and looking up all season...As of Friday night, only one team in the division, Arizona Diamondbacks had a record of over .500...Giants newcomers are fun to watch,  but they are making too many rookie mistakes, not saying that I could do any better...Eugenio Velez, he of the flying legs when he runs, has been playing so aggressively that it may take him a while to settle down.  When he does get on base, he is a speedster.  When he really learns how to run the bases, he will be really dangerous...Old Guy report: Rich Aurila had two home-runs over the weekend, both hit into the left-field stands with authority.  Ray Durham was scheduled to begin Sunday's game, but was scratched for any unknown reason...Bengie Molina, he of the man who turns doubles into singles, had a pinch hit single Sunday. His legs are still bothering him.  His replacement, Steve Holm calls a good game.  All of his pegs to second have been right on the money, just a little late...John Bowker, the instant hit with three home runs in his first three games spent Saturday night striking out four times on  breaking balls, had a couple of knocks on Sunday, including one off of a breaking ball...Chase Utley,   still leading the world in home runs at 13, is followed by teammate Pat Burrell with 9...Phillies wore retro uniforms from the 1940's, well replicas anyway on Sunday...Barry Zito; Nothing new on the Zito watch.  Guess he is doing all the work with Dave Rhigetti before and after the game.  He has not been to the bullpen yet...Giants to Pittsburgh Tuesday after any off day on Monday.  Home to the same Phillies next weekend.  May 4th, 2008.
