M'Bad: Zito to the 'pen!
EXRA, EXTRA: Barry Zito sent to the bullpen for an unspecified amount of time. His well publicized 0-6 start forced the hand of management. With a favorable schedule for the next two weeks, only four starters will be needed. So; 'Lights out' Lincecum, 'Strikeout' Sanchez, 'Come and get me' Cain and perhaps newcomer Pat Misch, who threw six innings on Sunday will share the rotation. More to come...On a brighter note (anything was brighter compared to Saturday and Sunday): Cain got his first win of the season (1-2) throwing the first 5 1/3 innings, then picked up by the bullpen. He threw 108 pitches, a lot for any pitcher. He issued five walks. Giants played good defense behind him. Bengie Molina, back after two games rest, picked off Matt Holiday at first base. No miscues in right field this time...Two runs in fifth on one hit and five walks. Emmanuel Burrishad bunt single, then the merry-go-round began. Free passes to Rowand and Aurila forced in runs, for 4-0 final score...Brian Wilson converted for his 8th save, which ties him for the NL lead. He struck out the side in the 9th, while giving up two hits...General info: Team has 31 steals, the most in the San Francisco era. Previously, 29 was the high in 1999...Ron Wotus, in his 10th year as Bench Coach, (on his third manager,) is playing pepper with some younger players to increase their eye-hand coordination. Pepper is a seldom used workout in which three or four players and or coaches play soft toss and hit at a distance of about 10 feet. Pepper is prohibited in most parks around the league...Two more games with Rockies, then on to the Keystone state, Pennsylvania for six with the Phillies and Pirates. (April 28, 2008)
