Yes, they re-signed Juan Uribe (because he couldn't get a multi-year deal elsewhere), and picked-up the versatile Mark De Rosa; however, that's just not enough for me. Assuming Bengie Molina doesn't return (he's been offered two years by the Mets), another bat must walk through that clubhouse door come spring training. Brad Penny walked away from the Giants, who seemingly made a comparable offer to the one year deal he inked with the Cardinals ($7.5 million with incentives that could boost the deal closer to nine-million dollars). Penny joins Cy Young runner-ups Carpenter and Wainwright in a solid rotation, and Matt Holiday appears certain to remain in a line-up featuring the great Albert Pujols. Maybe Penny thought the Cards were closer to the NL Pennant than San Francisco. One pitcher who will not be in Arizona this spring is 46-year-old veteran Randy Johnson, who has officially announced his retirement after twenty-two seasons and 303 victories. A 10-time all-star, 5-time Cy Young Award winner, and World Series MVP, Johnson's accomplishments stack-up against almost any other left-handed pitcher ever in the history of the game. Too bad his season was cut short due to injury, otherwise, he may have won three or four more games.

Assuming Juan Uribe re-signs with the team, he'll also be a back-up infielder. I want to see what happens with Manny Burriss as a future short stop. Remember, we still have Edgar Renteria for one more season (the back end of a two year, 18-million-dollar contract - yikes).

He could be a huge addition (if healthy). I would say, as the team stands now, Eugenio Velez and Juan Uribe should be the back-ups to Sanchez in addition to what they've done all year - play mu

s a bit unsettling to know that Edgar Renteria will likely be back at short stop tonight instead of Juan Uribe.  No, Uribe will definitely be in there at third base, which means Pablo at first, and no Travis Ishikawa (who had two more RBI's last night).  It's impossible to sit Uribe right now.  He had two hits and three more RBI's last night, boosting his average to .289 on the season.  Uribe has four homers and 12 RBI's in his last 10 games.  Bochy needs to right that hot-hand as long as possible.

Juan Uribe and Travis Ishikawa carried over the good vibes from Sunday with two hits apiece Monday.

Although everything went exactly as hoped for Monday, it's a new night tonight as the Rockies send THEIR ACE to the mound with Ubaldo Jimenez going up against Barry Zito.

So it was crucial to get the offensive contributions from Ishikawa and Juan Uribe, who has gone deep in each of the first two games of the series (numbers 7 and 8 on the season).  On the other side of the ledger:  Velez, Garko, Rowand, and Winn really need to get things going period.  Pablo and Bengie (and Sanchez) will all be back in the line-up soon, but it's not fair to rely on guys like Ryan Rohlinger; just called up from Fresno (0-for-3 Wednesday night), or Eli Whiteside (batting .228 after also taking an 0-for-3).

ng from his deep freeze, collecting two more hits (five in the last two games), and two more RBI's. Juan Uribe, who has been hobbled by injury in recent days, smacked a home run early in the game off Homer Bailey. Bailey pitched great through five-innings, but lost it in the sixth, surrendering four more runs. San Francisco also broke through against Reds' closer Francisco Cordero, touching him up for three runs - and the loss.  Two more games against Cincinnati with Barry Zito and Matt Cain scheduled to pitch Wednesday and Thursday.  Then, it's the big finale of the road trip with four games in Coors Field against the front-running, wild-card-leading Rockies.
