Eugenio Velez

21 January 2010

There is some young depth for the outfield as well with Andres Torres, Eugenio Velez, John Bowker, and (I would say very reluctantly) Fred Lewis.

luable component returning to this roster on a one-year deal.  Once again, with Uribe and Eugenio Velez, Bruce Bochy can mix-and-match all over the diamond, and ride the hot hand. Uri

tion and strengthening program.

This would certainly mean the end of the road for Kevin Frandsen. Eugenio Velez will remain a valuable utility man who can play second base or the outfield. Assuming Juan Uribe re-signs with the team, he'll also be a back-up infielder. I want to see what happens with Manny Burriss as a future short stop. Remember, we still have Edgar Renteria for one more season (the back end of a two year, 18-million-dollar contract - yikes).

I think everyone is overlooking John Bowker, who, like Eugenio Velez, can play the outfield too. All that being said, let's assume the team will not be looking to acquire a first-baseman in the off season.    Second Base: Freddy, Freddy, Freddy...Come back and help us Freddy Sanchez! Void out your 2010 option for 8-million-bucks, sign a fresh new contract with San Francisco, and prove yourself to the fans.  We know your track record, and this brief glimpse was not enough to compensate for what we traded to the Pirates at the deadline (pitcher Tim Alderson). This is a guy who has won the N.L. Batting Title in 2006. He could be a huge addition (if healthy). I would say, as the team stands now,

nd's clutch two-run single, the long ball from Bengie Molina (#18 on the year), and four RBI's from Eugenio Velez, as San Francisco pounded out 10 more hits (25 in the last two games).  That was more than enough for Lincecum and the bull pen - Jeremy Affeldt and Bobby Howry allowed just one walk between them over the last two innings.  Juan Uribe and Travis Ishikawa carried over the good vibes from Sunday with two hits apiece Monday.

Eugenio Velez drilled the first pitch of the game of Pedro Martinez for a home run and a 1-0 Giants' lead.  Too bad that was the end of the scoring for the rest of the game in a 2-1 loss to the Phillies Thursday.  Martinez looked really good with 9 strike outs over seven innings. No, his fastball is not what it once was, but he knows how to pitch, and still features a deceptive delivery with his arm angle. Philadelphia is hoping THIS will be the same Pedro they can take with them into the post season. Giants' fans may remember when Pedro came off the DL in May of '08 as a New York Met, and beat San Francisco at A.T.& T. Park. He also had two hits in that game, and Barry Zito was awful - I remember because I was there!  Now Zito has regained his form, and apparently, so has Pedro, because he was Way better today then he was at anytime last year with the Mets.

When I saw the starting line up with Jesus Guzman at first, and Eugenio Velez in left, I made the assumption that Ishikawa and Lewis MAY have been involved in the deal, which would have m
